My god I never realised how buggy our site was, just ran a test for the first time and got 108 errors on one page!

Would agile development practices have spared you? Unit testing (for which RoR is well suited) would have nipped this in the bud, no? One of the hazards of relying on server scripts instead of your program to solve this problem. Can't your Rails app clear the cache once a day or on any frequency you request?

What? Your website is your application.

"Funny, while no user thought this was important enough to email about — and would you email if a favorite website went dead for a while during the summer?"

No offense, but a Bingo card generator is probably nobody's favorite website. It's one of those utility sites that might be in your top 10 or 20, but it's not actually that crucial, so if it dies, we say "oh well" and move on.

Of course, once you get sufficiently popular, you can just watch Twitter for your bugs. Unless Twitter is down. :-)
